Short version: read what you like, quote me with credit, don't pass my writing off as yours, and don't treat anything here as advice for your specific situation.

This site is run by me, Dave Jackson, as an individual — not a company. If anything here needs clarifying, email hello@davejackson.dev.

Using the site

Everything published here is free to read. You're welcome to quote from it, link to it, and share it, with attribution and a link back. What you shouldn't do is republish a whole piece as your own, or feed it into something that reproduces it as its own answer.

The books and courses listed here aren't finished and none of them are for sale yet. When one is, it'll carry its own licence and terms, separate from this site's.

What I own, and what you own

The words, code samples, diagrams and design on this site are mine unless credited otherwise.

Anything you send me through a form is still yours. I use it to reply to you, and I look at which article or project an enquiry came from to see what's actually landing — see the Privacy page for everything that's stored and what happens to it.

The chat assistant

The assistant answers from what I've published here. It's a language model, which means it can be confidently wrong, and it can put things in a way I wouldn't have. Treat its answers as a pointer to the underlying article rather than as a quote from me — the articles are the record.

Please don't put anything confidential into it, and don't try to use it as a general-purpose assistant. There's a limit on how many questions can come from one place per hour, which exists to keep it available rather than to catch anyone out.

No warranty, and no advice

This site is technical writing about how I work. It isn't professional advice, and it isn't tailored to your system, your team or your legal situation. Architecture that suits one context can be actively wrong in another — decide with your own context in view.

This is a personal site, not a service. It'll be down sometimes, I'll be wrong sometimes, and if you act on something here and it goes badly, that's on your judgement rather than mine. I'd still like to hear about it.

Where I link to someone else's site, that's a pointer, not an endorsement of everything on it, and I don't control what it says next week.

Changes, and which law applies

These terms may change; the date at the top tells you when they last did. They're governed by the law of England and Wales.
